Diana and Ian welcome you to our home,
a luxury 5 star Bed and Breakfast.
Northumbrian House is the perfect place to explore the culture and heritage of historic Berwick-upon-Tweed as well as the beautiful coast of Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. We aim to provide a home from home with style in this elegantly restored Georgian town house and gardens. We also love the rich variety of local food here which allows us to offer you a real taste of Northumberland and the Borders.
Northumbrian House is right in the heart of Berwick-upon-Tweed yet perfectly tranquil. Set in the most beautiful residential street in Berwick it is just a five minute walk to the town centre with its pubs, restaurants, art galleries, theatre and cinema.
Within Northumbrian House all of our rooms have been carefully restored starting with an understanding of its history and a respect for its grade II listed status. Period furniture has been complemented with the best of modern amenities to create rooms which are both elegant and practical providing a wide array of modern facilities. Our comfortable beds made up with luxurious Egyptian cotton sheets and plump duvets are designed to give you a refreshing nights’ sleep.
Our breakfats are award winning as are our bacon and sausages which come from farms less than 15 miles away. You can choose from a menu of breakfast options, including traditional cooked breakfasts, oak-smoked kippers from Seahouses, home grown fruit compotes as well as local, sustainable, organic and fair-trade food, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented.
Our guests who stay for just a night or two often comment that they wish they had booked for longer. Berwick is within easy travelling distance of the beautiful Northumberland and Borders coast, Northumberland National Park, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh Castle amongst many other attractions. There are a wide range of brilliant walks and cycle routes for all tastes. There is also much to explore in Berwick and there is always the possibility of a quiet game of croquet or table tennis in the extensive walled garden at Northumbrian House. If you would like to explore in more depth, we can point the way, with Ian’s personal knowledge of the landscape and its geological roots. There are also excellent local guides for wildlife, walking, photography and more. Ian also runs our very own pottery studio, Northumbrian Fire, in the back garden and can help put you in contact with a range of artists and makers
